Meth Madness


This 3-hour course was approved by the Alabama Real Estate Commission as an elective course for Continuing Education. The course was designed to make the licensee aware of Methamphetamine labs to the environment, to real property ownership, and its effect on consumers, clients, and the real estate practitioner. Students will learn about the history of Meth and its ingredients; how to recognize a Meth Lab; remediation of a Meth Lab; and where to go for more information, including keeping up-to-date on laws, policies, and detection.

Learning Objectives

After successfully completing this course, the licensee will:

  • Learn about the associated health risks.
  • Identify how to recognize a Meth Lab.
  • Be introduced to the history of Methamphetamines.
  • Learn what Meth is.
  • Learn the difference between Meth and Cocaine.
  • Be able to recognize the signs of users.
  • Know slang and terminology used on the street and by law enforcement.
  • Learn how Meth is used.
  • Be able to detect possible Meth Labs.
  • Identify Meth Lab contaminants.
  • Understand common Meth Lab chemicals and their effects.
  • Learn about Ephedrine and Anhydrous Ammonia.
  • List dangers to property and persons.
  • Describe "First Response" procedures.
  • Formulate a plan for dealing with a potential problem in or around one' property.
  • Use resources provided within the course to further research the topic and keep abreast of changes in law, policies, and detection.

Learning Strategies:

 

  • We encourage online participation to ensure a more complete understanding of the subject matter.
  • Provide group discussion and quizzes; then the correct answers are given to ensure the student retains the proper knowledge.
  • Provide quiz builders to allow the student to realize their knowledge base of the topic and to peak their interest.
  • Picture and charactures are used to capture attention, create more excitement and enthusiasm, and make the learning process more retainable.
  • Books, examples, illustrations, and pertinent information are given to each student.
  • Web links to various sites are provided to enhance possible knowledge dealing with specific topics.
  • Web links to editorials provide additional pertinent information.
